Nigel Cross is Professor of Design Studies and Head of the
Department of Design and Innovation at the Faculty of Technology,
The Open University, UK. The Department was awarded Grade 5 ratings
in the two most recent UK Government research quality assessment
exercises (1992 and 1996).
Nigel Cross has been a member of the
academic staff of the UK's pioneering, multi-media distance-learning
Open University since 1970, where he has been responsible for,
or instrumental in, a wide range of courses in design and
technology. He has an international reputation in design research,
especially in fields of design methodology and the study of design
cognition.
Professor Cross is Editor-in-Chief of the international
research journal, Design Studies, published quarterly by Elsevier
Science in cooperation with the Design Research Society.
